I'm assuming, since you are young, you don't have any large assets (such as a house) and assuming that you will be leaving her everything in your will anyways, it's a bit redundant (since as your mother, she is your next of kin, assuming you aren't married). It's actually voided at death. Power-of-attorney is only if the person it's for (the "principal") is incapacitated or have other issues that they want someone to take care of (financial issues, etc). If someone doesn't have a power-of-attorney set up and then is incapacitated (for example, is in a coma) the doctor's make all the medical choices and parents have no say. Of course, this assumes you are over 18 (maybe 16 in Japan, I'm not sure if they go by your home country or current country of residence).
