Hiroshima

Okok so I went to Hiroshima and oh my god that I don’t believe in, it was AMAZING.

So much happened that I don’t know where to start, but I guess the shinkansen ride to Hiroshima is as good as any. Yes yes, I rode on a shinkansen!! the train faster than a speeding bullet? nono.. but they are called bullet trains. SUPER FAST and super comfy. We spent around 8000 yen for these reserved seats and to be completely honest, the ride was over before I could really be happy that I was on a shinkansen. That being a good thing or a bad thing I don’t know, all in all it took 1 and a half hours which is pretty decent I’d say for over 300kms worth of travel.

Andrew, myself and Angie. Such good times.

Andrew, myself and Angie. Such good times.

Sooo we arrived in Hiroshima, and since I was the guy that organised our… wait wait wait. We.. our group. The awesome super Hiroshima cool group consisted of myself, Angie and Handrew. We were awesome. We had a mega time and our first adventure was made up of me trying to lead us to our hostel. Hehe, trying. Buut I failed. Buuut eventually, we found the place and unloaded our stuff before setting out to explore a little before going to the Hiroshima Peace Museum next to the Atomic Bomb Dome.

It was there we listened to a heart wrenching speech from an atomic bomb survivor, she recounted her story to us and Professor Paul Scott translated our questions when she was done. Afterwards, we checked out the entire Peace Museum, there were some pretty cool exhibits and others that really made you think a bit.

Buuuut, afterwards we headed out for some lunch and food, we got some Subways and went over to a hip (did I just say hip?) New York styled bar near the shopping districts. Thhheeen we jumped on the tram and headed back to our hostel to prepare for a wicked night of being out. :D

We had big beers!

We had big beers!

So we decided predrinks at the hostel was best, and that was where we met.. Eric the Hawaiian - it was here we continued to drink next to the beer vending machine and play a game of Kings (card game). Now that I mention it, we were playing cards alot that weekend, Angie introduced us to a game called ‘Secret’ and we played on the Shinkansen, the New York bar, the trams.. everywhere!

Annnyway, after predrinks we jumped on another tram and headed out! we met up with a Texan by the name of Micheal and headed to a building that had like, a bunch of clubs in it. Firstly we started with a Latino club where Angie taught us all the salsa, it was fuuun! I asked an old lady to dance with me and I salsa-ed away for a little bit, I had a great teacher. ^^

After the Latino joint, after many adventurous trips up and down stairs and through elevators talking to randoms, we found another place where we got in for free. For some reason, this place was filled with black people.. in Hiroshima, nice right? anyhow! we immediately took up the stage and danced the night away, eventually got a limbo game going and had some disgusting drink called the incredible hulk along with a load of tequila shots.

Somehow, we decided to go to another place, where I broke Angie’s camera (fixed it later!) but we never went in, instead opting to go to sleeeep. The next day, early in the morning Andrew came into me and Angie’s room to sleep with us til late morning.

There was a festival on when we got off the Tram before the Ferry.

Then.. MIYAJIMA! such a place that cannot be described with words for I would not do its beauty justice. We saw the tori gate in the water, found more deer that liked to bow to us, and climbed a mountain! it took about 1 hour and a half to get to the top and Angie wanted to quit more than once. :P buuut we made it and the view was totally worth it. Once we started on our way down we came by a group of people, I think they were two families, 2 wifes and 1 husband and a few kids going down the mountain.. in high heels. Now you have to understand, the trek up the mountain was so steep and hard, the steps were narrow and once again. REAL STEEP. So, with the sun already disappearing into the night, we worried a lil bit for these guys as the women were crying, taking step by step down the mountain that took 1 hour and a half to get up. So we got down, the using our mobile phones as light and decided we should tell someone that there was a family still on the mountain. We came across a restaurant and told them using our shitty Japanese skills. Let’s just say the message didn’t get across and I just asked for a few flashlights and then scaled the mountain once again on a rescue mission! well we rescued them and they were so thankful! we actually ran away when we were down the bottom cos they were so thankful!

We climbed those mountains.

We climbed those mountains.

After that.. yes, there are alot of ‘after that’s in this post.. but yeah, AFTER THAT. We jumped on the ferry and went to a flashy Italian place, picked up our luggage from the hostel and night bussed it back home.

Definitely, one of my most amazing experiences in Japan so far!
